Taplejung airport is open

Is the Taplejung / Sukhetar airport open? YES! Sukhetar (the airstrip 8km above Taplejung) opened in October 2015. Sadly many flights were cancelled shortly after due to the lack of aviation fuel caused by the border blockades, however this seems to be resolved now

As of March 2016 flights are running normally

Tara air (Yeti subsidiary) run flights on Fridays

Goma have flights on Mondays and Fridays

Nepal Airlines have flights on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Sundays

Nepal Airlines are a subsidised airline and therefore slightly cheaper than the others. However they book up well in advance.

Check with Flight Connections or directly with the airlines for updates

kanchenjunga sukethat airport open

Looks like a quality runway!

Reaching Taplejung by air is by far the easiest way to start the Kanchenjunga Trek.

Here is the airport as it used to be. Looks good for cricket outside of landing hours.

I am thinking to organize a trek of around four weeks with 6 clients in October 2017. As my clients are repeated more times in Nepal like Manaslu Larke pass, Tsum Valley, Upper mustang trekking, Everest from jiri, Helambu circuit etc, they want to do it tea house based trek.
in 2001, i had been there with the same clients some of them but i don’t know how does it work now? I have heard that any of airlines are not operated in this sector even the airport of Taplejung is well renovated, is it true?
Can we make a walking only for 4 hrs daily? Are there tea houses or homestay to eat and to sleep during the entire trekking route?
I wish i could have some of responses regarding my questions.
Thank you very much in advance!
